Packing Day
Here's what's going on here today and it stinks - don't let A.J.'s smiling face fool you!
We're packing up the apartment in order to be mostly out of here by Thursday when we will travel to Guayaquil for the English Convention. Jordanne and A.J. will be going straight to the States from Guayaquil and I'll be coming back to Cuenca where I'll pick up the rest of my stuff in the apartment and go to live with another couple for a few weeks while I look for an apartment and await my new roommate. While I am CRAZY excited for the convention, packing is depressing and I'm not even thinking about saying goodbye yet...Now I know that lots of you usually come to this blog for happy news and encouragement and I'm sorry. I'm sure I'll have lots of good things to say after the convention but in the meantime you might want to go to some of the other blogs that I follow - a new addition to this blog on the left.

ReplyDeleteYay Damaris! A real life blog with real life ups and downs - that's what we expected and we're never disappointed.
ReplyDeleteTry to look on the bright side: I bet the new place won't at the top of 4 flights of stairs.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the convention; I look forward to your reports on it. Ours was last weekend, and it was awesome.
Hi Damaris! I just got back from english convention yesterday so I'm going to tell you one of my favorite things about it!
ReplyDeleteBrother Splane was one of our guest speakers for the whole weekend, which I realize is such an awesome blessing that many friends around the world don't get to experience often. He gave an experience at the gilead meeting friday, and it was very encouraging for anyone *TRYING!!!!* to serve in a foreign language field.
There was a special pioneer sister who was plucked out of her congregation one February and moved to a French Canadian congregation. It was her first week there (and she speaks practically no French), she was working door to door with the Circuit Overseer. At one door she takes her turn, where she stumbles through her French presentation and has bad grammar all over the place. She finishes, and the woman smiles very pleasantly, and says (in French), "You should learn to SPEAK -- before you come to my door." So -- They leave the house, and the C.O. see's the Sister writing down the house number. He asks her why, and she says, "Didn't you see how nice she smiled?"
....The CO wonders to himself if he should tell her what the woman said, and decides that the pioneer sister needs to report a return visit for the month, so he doesn't say anything and he figures she can go back and that'll just be that.
So, six months pass and the CO comes back for his next visit, and sees this sister's name on the sign-up sheet to host lunch one day. He asks where they're going for lunch. She says they're going to her Bible students house -- the woman had started studying and had them for lunch, and in the future her and her husband both came into the truth. Brother Splane mentioned that he got to stay with them one time when he was visiting the area.
SO -- do you ever wonder how much you can accomplish in a foreign language?
Transitions and moves are tough but you are one of the most resilient people I know. Hope apartment hunting goes well. Lots of love.
ReplyDeletehey Damaris! This is Sarah (sherrie abron's sister) I was just browsing your blog and it's very very inspiring! And I love your Pictures! I hope you are doing well! I go to the italian congregation in Philadelphia, pa. I wonder do they have a italian population where you are? lol
