Mission: Find a Missionary

I'm on the hunt for a missionary.  After you hear my friend Jackie's story, you will be too.

Jackie is just a few years older than me and is one of my most precious friends here.  She is absolutely beloved by our congregation, a hard worker, super song for the truth, great in service and loves a good "coconut juice break" - now you see why we get along so well!  She grew up in Guayaquil and is the only one in her family in the truth.  She learned the truth as a child of only 10 years old.  She started studying in the park with a missionary sister in the Bible Stories Book even though she faced opposistion at home.  The sister would help her to take notes on what she was learning and at the same time was able to learn Spanish with sweet little Jackie.  Eventually Jackie saw the importance of attending the meetings but unfortunately her parents did not.  So every week Jackie would go out to "play" with her friends for exactly 1 hour and 45 minutes.   Unfortunately after about 2 years of studying together the missionary sister and Jackie lost touch but that did not mean that the truth did not take took root in Jackie's heart.  She is now one of our sisters and a great one at that.  At some point Jackie's mom found the Bible Stories Book where the missionary sister had written her contact information and burned it so Jackie has no way of finding that sister but sincerely wants to.  I think especially now since we go together on the study with 6 year old Jocelyn every Friday, the memories of studying the Bible Stories Book with a foreigner as a child must be surfacing more and more vividly.  Jackie's connection with Jocely is really sweet and when we left the study today Jackie told me about her mom burning that book and she almost had me in tears - if the sister could only know what good she did.

Here's what we know about the sister:
She was in Guayaquil, Ecuador in the year of 1985, she was a new missionary, she had an accent but not that of an American - Jackie thinks she was from England and went back to England after they lost touch, she definitely spoke English and she studied with a little girl in the park for 2 years.

These stories are actually all too common here.  Jackie is definitely not the only one in our congregation who came in the truth as a child, she's not even the only one who had to hide the fact that she went to the meetings from her parents...so we won't give up on those kids!
