Quevedo: Day 4

Still alive and kicking in Quevedo.  After that frantic "I have a last minute talk in Chinese" post I went home to finish it up and after that Fernanda and I went back out in the afternoon for a quick hour before we had to head home again to get ready for meeting and it turned out to be a well spent hour.  We walked into one restaurant where there was not one single customer - good timing - plus, we were met by a family of 6 all sitting around enjoying their break - a little bit intimidating but thanks to all the nice conversations we´ve been having with so many nice people and the fact that I had just spent the better part of that afternoon working on the talk, our Chinese was all warmed up to face "a crowd".  The conversation went really well and we made plans to go back today.  We tried but they were a little busy.  Hopefully I´ll get to start something with at least someone before I leave.  Meeting was great as usual!  Quevedo´s Chinese group has a Bible Study in Chinese every week and a Ministry School every month (which I was conveniently here for...) just like Cuenca.  Of course there´s a need for brothers so all the sisters took turn reading the paragraphs at the bookstudy.  We listened to the Bible reading by way of CD and the brother in charge gave the number 3.  Today was another very successful day of service!  Fernanda met a sweet older lady who is Catholic but loves to read our magazines.  Fernanda left the BT book with her and promised to come back with one in Spanish that she can share with her kids - who were born and raised here.  We went back in the afternoon and the lady was reading her Chinese copy and already had some questions for us.  After that I stopped back on a young mother I had had a nice conversation with Wednesday.  Again we were able to leave the book and read a scripture.

As far as living conditions go...you girls that are coming to stay with Ferd are gonna have it great!  We´re working out the kinks of the apt as we speak.  Last night I thought my skin was going to set on fire I was SOOO hot but today we figured out that the fan that we thought was broken you just have to leave on for a few minutes before it actually starts working so hopefully we will actually be able to sleep tonight!  Also, we had NO water all day yesterday.  After a full day of preaching in this weather, it is NOT a pretty sight going to the meeing sin shower...but what happened was that someone forgot to tell us that the water works on a reserve and when the reserve is out you have to push a button to switch over to the other one...so that problem is solved too.

Until tomorrow...

  3. We can't even imagine not being able to shower in the heat Damaris! You are such a sterling example of missionary spirit - We think your story is yearbook material - We're gonna start a campaign (are we allowed to do that?). Anyway, looking forward to reading more, we gain so much from your funny hardships - Thank you!!

  4. Ahh, makes us all so appreciative of having a public water supply.

OK, I admit that was shameless self promotion of my current secular occupation.
